Trouser is one of the common garment manufacturing item in the apparel industry. Knitted Trouser can be made from fleece fabric or single jersey. Calculation process of fabric consumption for trouser is same for both fabric types. But we will continue our discussion with fleece fabric. As already discuss about it, we know fabric costs are taking almost 60% of total manufacturing cost of the garment product. Don’t be confused, as already discuss fabric consumption for T-shirt, polo shirt & hoodie sweatshirt. You can see below link for the full article above mentioned topic.
How to do fabric consumption for knitted T-Shirt?
We continue our discussion on fabric consumption of knit items. Today we will see the consumption process of a knitted trouser with example. For garment Merchandiser, fabric consumption is a regular activity. If CAD system is not a workout, sometime merchandiser need to calculate fabric consumption manually. For better understanding and calculation process of fabric consumption, follow the below formula and example;
Find the below formula, which we will use to calculate the fabric consumption for knitted trouser;
Formula - 01: In centimeter
{(IL + Allowance + CFR + Allowance + WBW + Allowance) x (HTC + Allowance)} x 4 x GSM / 10,000 x 1000 + 10% (Wastage and extra cutting) x Doz.
Where,
IL = Inseam Length
CFR = Center front rise
WBW = Waist Belt Width
HTC = Half Thigh Circum
Formula - 02: In Inch
{(IL + Allowance + CFR + Allowance + WBW + Allowance) x (HTC + Allowance)} x 4 x GSM / 1550 x 1000 + 10% (Wastage and extra cutting) x Doz.
For better understanding we will practice both options. First of all, we need below information to calculate fabric consumption;
- Fabric GSM of the garment
- Garment measurement sheet
- Cutting and sewing allowance
- Fabric consumption for body
- Fabric consumption for pocket
- Total consumption of the garment
Suppose, the knitted fleece trouser has been following information. Now we will calculate the fabric consumption based on below information measurement;
Item: Knitted fleece fabric, fabric GSM (Gram per square) is 260.
Measurement | Without allowance | With allowance |
---|---|---|
Inseam (IL) | 70.2 cm | = 70.2 + 3 = 73.2 cm |
Front Rise (CFR) | 23.70 cm | = 23.70 + 3 = 26.7 cm |
Waistband height | 3.50 cm | = 3.50 + 3 = 6.5 cm |
½ Thigh (HTC) | 34.70 cm | = 34.7 + 3 = 37.7 cm |
As per above measurement of this style, the body fabric consumption is;
(IL + CFR + WBW) x ½HTC x 4 x GSM / 10,000 x 1000 + 10% (Wastage and extra cutting) x Doz.
= (73.2 + 26.7 + 6.5) x 37.7 x 4 x 260 / 10,000 x 1000 + 10% x 12
= 5.507 kg / Doz.
Measurement | Without allowance | With allowance |
---|---|---|
Pocket Length | 13 cm | = 13 + 3 = 16 cm |
Pocket Width | 12.5 cm | = 12.5 + 3 = 15.5 cm |
As per above measurement of this style, the pocket fabric consumption is;
= Pocket Length x Pocket Width x 4 x GSM / 10,000 x 1000 + 10% (Wastage and extra cutting) x Doz.
= 16 x 15.5 x 4 x 260 / 10,000 x 1000 + 10% x 12
= 0.340 kg / Doz.
Note: We calculated pocket fabric consumption based shell fabric.
So, as per above consumption of this style, total fabric consumption for hoodie sweatshirt is;
Body fabric consumption + Pocket fabric consumption
= 5.507 + 0.340 kg / Doz.
= 5.847 kg / Doz.
We need total 5.847 kg per Doz. to complete garment of knitted trouser.
Formula - 02: If garment measurement uses in Inch
Suppose, the knitted fleece trouser has been following information. Now we will calculate the fabric consumption based on below information measurement;
Item: Knitted fleece fabric, fabric GSM (Gram per square) is 260.
Measurement | Without allowance | With allowance |
---|---|---|
Inseam (IL) | 27.64 inch | = 27.64 + 2 = 29.64 inch |
Front Rise (CFR) | 9.33 inch | = 9.33 + 2 = 11.33 inch |
Waistband height | 1.38 inch | = 1.38 + 2 = 3.38 inch |
½ Thigh (HTC) | 13.66 inch | = 13.66 + 2 = 15.66 cm |
As per above measurement of this style, the body fabric consumption is;
(IL + CFR + WBW) x ½HTC x 4 x GSM / 1550 x 1000 + 10% (Wastage and extra cutting) x Doz.
= (29.64 + 11.33 + 3.38) x 15.66 x 4 x 260 /1550 x 1000 + 10% x 12
= 6.15 kg / Doz.
Measurement | Without allowance | With allowance |
---|---|---|
Pocket Length | 5.12 inch | = 5.12 + 2 = 7.12 inch |
Pocket Width | 4.92 inch | = 4.92 + 2 = 6.92 inch |
As per above measurement of this style, the pocket fabric consumption is;
= Pocket Length x Pocket Width x 4 x GSM / 1550 x 1000 + 10% (Wastage and extra cutting) x Doz.
= 7.12 x 6.92 x 4 x 260 / 1550 x 1000 + 10% x 12
= 0.44 kg / Doz.
Note: We calculated pocket fabric consumption based shell fabric.
So, as per above consumption of this style, total fabric consumption for hoodie sweatshirt is;
Body fabric consumption + Pocket fabric consumption
= 6.15 + 0.44 kg / Doz.
= 6.59 kg / Doz.
We need total 6.59 kg per Doz. to complete garment of knitted trouser.
To calculate the fabric consumption of a garment, CAD marker is the best option to estimate accurate fabric consumption. But sometime we need to calculate fabric consumption manually if CAD marker is not available.
