How to define collar length for garment

The Basic Polo shirt is one of the common garment item in the apparel industry. As we know, Polo shirt is a little bit different from T-shirt. When we are going to produce polo shirt, we use collar & cuff for the garment. In the development stage of polo shirt, sometimes buyer didn’t provide collar length of the product. That’s why we need to define the correct collar size for the garment.
For manufacturing polo shirt, garment merchandiser need to calculate correct collar size of the product and provide to knit department. Because we know, garment collar is made by part. We also know that; we cannot reduce collar length after complete the knitting of the collar. We can reduce collar width, but not possible to reduce collar length. So, garment merchandiser need to more careful to make the collar of an order. If any miscalculation happens in collar length, then full order can be face disaster. The Garment will face huge loss and also lose their reputation in the market.  You may also check our previous topic on polo shirt:

We need bellow information for calculating collar length;
  1. Neck width &
  2. Neck drop front

For better understanding and calculation, follow the below example;
Where,
Neck width is 15 cm
Neck drop front is 7.6 cm

As per above information on the garment, collar length is:
Formula: {(Neck Width + Neck drop front) x 3} / 2
= {(15 + 7.6) x 3} / 2
= {22.6 x 3} / 2
= 33.9 CM
= 33.9 cm - 1 = 32.9 cm
= 32.5 cm

Note: We select 32.5 cm instead of 32.9 cm, because minus tendency is the better for selecting collar length. As we already know, we can’t reduce collar length after complete the knit production. For safety purpose, we will select minus tendency measurement for collar length.
